As many of you know, I have had the incredible opportunity to intern at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center this semester. This has been such a rewarding experience knowing exactly where and how my contribution of time and effort is being utilized. I see the direct and indirect results of the support from our donors and it is amazing to see just how impactful this organization is in our community.
As a member of the LGBT community myself, I am so grateful for the awesome programs the center creates and the essential supportive services they provide.
I am strong believer that the integration of an intersectional mindset allows for a more effective form of activism and scholarship. It is indispensable to analyzing problems of power and to facilitating inter- and intragroup collaboration. I know first hand that LGBT youth bravely navigate a world that wasn't made for them, but even more so do LGBT youth of color, of low income, and with disabilities. Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center uses this intersectional mindset when considering their work and who they serve. Their youth programs are aimed at empowering and supplying essential resources to LGBT youth of color and homeless and housing-insecure LGBT youth. In addition to their youth programs, I am currently working on planning an arts and culture community program aimed at honoring the intersection of disability, queerness and transness.
I hope that by the end of my internship, I will have raised $1000 for Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center to ensure the continued advancement of the LGBTQ+ community. And I'm calling on you for help! Of course your donation is tax-deductible, but that's not why you should give. Give because you agree with me that the programs and services offered by Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center play a significant and important role in so many LGBTQ+ lives and in the community at large. Your contribution is guaranteed to make a positive impact in someone’s life.
